New 450 SMR owner question
I just picked up a 05 450 SMR. Im doing all the normal service but had a question. In the manual it shows that after removing the filter box cover that there in another hard cover (throttle cap) that goes over the filter. Is that right because mine just has a filter no cover. Is that a normal mod, to leave that off? It looks like stock jetting and the pipe is stock so I wouldnt see a reason to leave the cap off. -

Question about FE550 Clutch parts…
Anybody have any idea where to get an aftermarket clutch for a 2008 FE550? If you have any information please shoot me a PM. -
XRR carb question
Hi guysI fitted the HRC clone hi-flo airbox mod from XR’s Only and set the jetting as instructions and it seems to have quite a bit more power than before but now I have a small problem…
When I come to a stop it takes a while for the revs to come down to normal idle, could I have an air leak? or should I have adjusted something other than the main jet (now a 175)? when I’m riding it rips  but sitting at the lights with it at 3000+ revs and slowly coming down to 1400 is annoying.
any suggestions?

Question on brake relocator for crf450
So I have all my parts, except for my wheels – which should show up in a week.I’m sitting here looking at the motomaster brake relocator I bought from motostrano outlet (for a smokin deal I might add) and I’m just perplexed. It only has 3 tapped holes while the last hole isn’t tapped. I just find that odd. But everything I read about the adapter shows it to be the right one – part # 211010

Is it just going to all make sense when I put everything together or what? Someone tell me I’m not crazy :headscrat
Edit: I would have posted in the Honda section, but it doesn’t seem to see much action unless you’re riding an XR650

Easy exhaust question???
I have not seen a definite answer anywhere here, sooo… If i put on an FMF Q4 slip-on, do I lose the exup? ie: how long is the tail on the Q4? If the exup goes away, and you use the delete module, is there any negative effects? I see some people welding the exup back into their aftermarket pipes. I don’t plan on changing the head pipe for a while. Although, if the exup is gone with the slip-on, I might just do it then as well. I will also do a basic programer as well at that point. Any thoughts from people just running the FMF Q4? Thanks guys! -
A kind of technical question about motard wheels.
Is there a general rule(specifications been written somewhere) to understand what wheels fit each bike?
For example.I have an xt600 and I want to turn it put sm wheels. How will i find the proper size? Found some1 selling for these models YZ125/250 ,YZF450/250F, WR250F kai WR450F.Is it possible to fit my bike and if yes what modification should I make? -
Question regarding flat slide carbs
So I have this flat slide carb on a CR250, and I never tried adjusting the needle setting before on one. What’s up with the end of the throttle cable that goes inside the slide? First off, the carb spring seems attached inside the hole at the bottom. I’m don’t know if it is supposed to be like that, or should I be able to pull the spring up away from the needle?
At any rate, I have the other end of the throttle cable separated from the throttle assembly but I can’t get any love from this carb.
Even if I could get the spring up, inside it looks like there is no slot out of which I can get the end of the throttle cable free and away from the slide.
Does anybody understand what I’m trying to say, and can you offer help?

ride height question
question….i’m just trying to get in on the SM pie, just bought a cheap XR650L (non-running, a project). i’ve been exclusively a street/sport rider w/ ZERO dirt experience. i’m used to sport bikes that i can stradle and either plant both feet or at least tip-toe. looking at the XR, even w/ the seat cushion OFF, there is no way in hell i can even get close to getting my feet down, and even if i lean it down to get 1 foot down, i’m pictuing the bike being leaned waaay down. i’m not tall, only 5-8 on a good day, i tried and i can’t really even swing my leg over the frame as it sits. as it sits, the handle bars are almost at my shoulders when i’m pushing it around. should this be of any concern or is this how it’s supposed to be? i don’t figure it’s too big of a deal and just the way dirt/SM riding is (except for a longer fall to the ground).can anyone post any pictures of u standing next to the bike? list your height/inseam and maybe the seat and bar height from the ground? at worst maybe i’ll look into having it lowered? thanks for the help

KTM 530 EXC revalve question
Ok let me start with a little history. I raced Supermoto on a 06 YZ450 that I had originally raced expert offroad. The suspension was originally setup for Baja type terrain by Enzo. When I switched to Supermoto it seemed perfect after I stiffened up a bit. Never any complaints.I have a new 09 530exc, that I have removed all the crap parts and setup bare bones for the track and street. Somehow KTM manages to have the fork too soft and too harsh. It dives a lot, but is harsh.
I might occasionally take off road. I personally think I should ask a revlave service to setup expert offroad with the suspension shortened a bit for better supermoto and then adjust firmer when racing or rider SM.
1. Thoughts?
2. Who is a good KTM service for revalving? Thanks

Newbie Question SM & DS Set-up
I’ve been shopping for a used Suzuki DRZ which I plan to set-up with DS wheels and an SM set. I’d ride in DS mode probably 60-70% of the time.Should I get a DRZ-S and look for a set of SM wheels and tires or a DRZ-SM and look for the DS wheels and tires?
What are the differences between the two that I need to consider?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can offer.

Xr250 sumo wheels question
Okay, trying to learn what I need to do here!I’ve seen a set of xr400 sumo wheels and I was wondering if they would fit my 250.

technical question settle debate pls
ok here the debate – this person says that if i change the stroke, going to a longer one, he says the crank speed will go up. i on the other hand figure its going to take longer since i have to cover a longer distance. wouldnt going to a long stroke generally lower the rpm? -
Painting Heat Shield Question

KTM 450 EXCR 5″ rear wheel clearance question
OK, mounted a 5" rear wheel laced to talon hub on my 2008 450 EXCR with a 160/60 Conti SM tire. No way will it clear the chain. I have do run 5mm difference on the chain blocks to get enough clearance so that the rear wheel will roll. To the point where the sprocket touches the chain guide. I have read others have installed this wheel so what gives?I sent the wheel back to Motostrano an they are very helpful. They measured the offset and found it to be correct and are willing to exchange the wheel for a 4.25" but obviously I will need a new tire.
I really wanted to run the 160/60 tire for the nice profile. Opinions?

DNA wheel question crf to XR
Can you run a DNA hub on a xr650r that was set up for a crf450? xr is a 2007 CRF is a 2008. I was hoping DNA used the same hub and used spacers to fit different bikes? My XR has a 2005 crf fork on it, so the front wheel will work. A pair of sumo wheels off a 2008 crf are for sale used. I want to buy the set up and fit it to the xr so I can look cool at the coffee shop, and not have to spend a fortune. I ordered some exhaust today. A built KTM is starting to look affordable. -

Quick JD Jet kit – air box question… 625 SMC
Anyone have a JD Jet kit installed on their KTM 625 SMC?I have the ‘06…..
Was wondering — currently have the standard Blue needle installed – 3 down clip position, with the 170 main jet. (the recommendation for elevations of sea level to 4,000 feet — non hot weather below 80 degrees)
I got the bike with the air box drilled in several areas from the previous owner…..(along with the throttle stop screw and the pipes debaffled)
Am thinking about pulling the air box lid completely —–
Does the JD kit account for the full uncorking? or do you think I’ll need to go up a notch on the needle?
(if I don’t get any responses I may just pull the air box lid…..and start with the JD recomendations and see how lean she’ll be….)

To Stroke or not to Stroke?…. That is the question.
I have the motor on my 05 450x out on the bench right now and I positive that a new crank is in the future for this jewel. The questions I have are:1. Is anyone running the Hotrods +3mm crank with the Athena bigbore kit?
2. Are there any piston, rod or crank clearance issues?
3. How’s that combo run?
4. Reccomendations on cams for the sumo/streeter/ trackday bike.
My backup plan is to use the new 100mm Athena kit I have, and use a Hotrods HD stock stroke crank and Webb .400/360 cams with some headwork (ss valves, seats, ARE racing springs, porting) and a MRD exhaust. Im looking for 55+ horses at the rear wheel on 93 octane.
Let me know…..:hmmm:

Sprocket question?
I am running a 48/14 set up, on my 03′ KTM 525SX. I know a little bit about how it works being that size increase in the rear and decrease in the front will favor torque for increased acceleration. Decrease in the rear and increase in the front favors top end speed. I mainly want to trail ride and maybe get on a track just for fun when I feel my skills are up to par. Any opinions on if this 48/14 is a good set up for what I want to do??? Thanks in advance for any input. -
A question about the Nikasil plating

Quick question on torque setting for handlebar mount bolts can anyone look up 4 me?
I’m after the torque setting or even a rough guide to it for the bolts that hold the rubber bar monts on a drz sm. (two bolts on the underside of top triple clamp)I’ve got a clymer manual but it has let me down on this occasion and hasn’t supplied the goods.
In the process of swapping out the bars (due to my own incompetence) and like to do things by the book or not by the book in this case as its not in there!
thanks for any help.

quick question?
i have a drz400e with a slip-on pipe. Just bought a supermoto setup and currently running gearing or 16 front and 41 rear (previous owner of rims set up) i lost a lot of bottom end power from my old setup of 18" rim with 16 from and 47 rear. Whats everyone else running? or what do you suggest to get me back in the same range? -
DRZ Fork Cap Question
After riding my new to me 05 DRZ home I realized there was something slightly wrong with the fork. I was trying to do a stoppie and i noticed it took a lot more speed and brakes then I felt it should (this could be due to me coming off a sportbike with stiff suspension and I’m not used to the DRZ’s).But anyways every time the forks compressed I heard this hissing of air from somewhere. Upon further inspection the little plug on top of the right fork has been snapped off.
Being a complete Newb to these forks I have no idea whether or not this is a huge deal or something I can live with for a little bit. I have included a picture.
I forgot to include that the part number on this little thingy is 7177579-001 if that helps identify it and what it actually does.

Supermoto fashion question
Alright…not really fashion, but gear. I saw a bunch of people wearing mx gear and a few wearing road racing gear (myself included). What’s the hot setup with regard to comfort and protection/safety?I took a pretty mild hit to my hip/thigh when I tucked the front down in the hairpin before the back straight. I’m still feeling the effects…nice goose egg and pretty colors! My leathers held up fine and there is a small hip pad in there, but I’m going to need to do something better at least until I figure this stuff out.

Question for the Taller guys
I’m 6′5 and I’m a concerned that a supermoto will be too short for me with 17’s. Any taller guys out there that can help me with this.

Tube question….
I ordered a set of tubes for my new wheels/tires. The front is a 3.5 the rear a 4.25. The supplier was out of stock on the brand and size that I ordered so he substituted some less expensive tubes. He sent two tubes that are the same size. On the box it says 3.25/3.50-17. I called him up and asked why I got two of the same when I need a larger one for the rear. He told me that tube size will be fine for the 4.25 rear. I’m new to the sport and didn’t want to argue with him, but I saw a 4.10/4.50-17 listed on the site as well. Will this tube be fine for the rear or is this guy giving me bad info? Thanks in advance. -
Question for the 950 SM guys…
FYI, I’ve searched the web high and low, and I can’t even find a discussion on this, let alone an answer…So does anyone know of the 950 super enduro tank, plastics, etc. will fit on the 950 SM? I like the way the SE looks a lot better than the SM, but I’m betting it’s much cheaper to buy SE plastics for the SM than to SM the SE… say THAT 5 times fast.
From what I can see in pics, the frames look similar or the same, so maybe there’s a chance… any ideas?

Again — sorry if this has been covered…
Thanks!
EDIT: I feel dumb now… is that more or less what the 950 SM R is ???

XR400 or DRZ400…not your normal question
If you could buy a brand new, 2009 model, street legal, DRZ or XR400 off the show room floor, which one would you buy. It’s not a hypothetical. I’m in Japan for the next few years and both bikes are available here off the dealer floor. I had a 400ex 4 wheeler a few years ago and loved it’s simple, add oil, cleaner air filter, fill with gas and abuse attitude. It was a great quad and a fantastic motor. I have no experience with any Suzuki’s other than a friends Kawa-Zuki 400 quad. Seemed to be good to him. The DRZ available over here is the same as the one in the States. So, given the XR400 vs the DRZ400, which bike would you buy and why? By the way, here are a couple pictures of the XR available here in Japan.

KTM SMC 625 SAG and Travel question
I’m trying to figure this out and I’m getting differing information. I have an 06 KTM SMC 625. My manual says it gets 260mm front wheel travel and 300mm rear wheel travel. Everywhere I read on the interweb says 275/260 respectively. Even more confusing is my manual lists the standard adjustments for both the fork and rear in a different chart – if I’m reading it correctly – it lists the rear spring at 260mm (and I think a recommended SAG of 70mm). BTW – Their method of "spring preload" doesn’t seem too useful other than an initial setting, but I digress. What is the actual travel?Anyway, I was expecting to put my rear sag at around 80mm for 30% of total travel (using 260mm). Opinions? What are others running?
My current front sag is only 47mm which sounds crazy low – again I’d expect something more like 80-85 mm.
I’m 200lbs if it matters at all.
I’m a little frustrated in getting this set-up – all the different numbers are confusing.

Wondering if any of you are running these Radial Masters or have run them and if they are decent. I am looking for a cheap radial Master to run as a rear Hand brake. And if they are decent enough possibly replace my Front Master on my CRF with a Radial for more stopping power. well here is the link and let me know.
