New to the site & need DRZ advice!
Good afternoon! My name is Beck, I am new to this site and am the proud owner of an 06 DRZ400SM (her name is Rita) that I bought about 10 months ago. I have a previous history with sport bikes (have had a few 600RR’s) and just recently transitioned over to the motard world.I ride mostly on the track (Jennings, PBIR, and Homestead) as I live in the S. FL area. I also have an 08′ CRF150R Big Wheel that I’m in the process of converting into a mini-moto for some of the karting tracks around here.
Anyway, being new to the Supermoto world, I would appreciate any advice or recommendations y’all have about mods for both the DRZ and the CRF. The only mods on the DRZ are a full yoshi pipe, flat side carb, and aesthetic improvements. Being that I ride the DRZ at regular track days that are generally filled with sport bikes, I’d like to do what I can to get the most out of my ride. A little more top end would be nice (especially for those dang straight-aways) but I know I’ll be sacrificing a bit for this.
As I’ve said, any mod recommendations are welcomed (and explanations would help too!). I am very very uneducated when it comes to motards so have a lot to learn still.
Thanks guys!

Well S#!T….610 Advice needed.
well I just bought a 2006 SM610 from another member on the board.Bike had 3400 (claimed) miles and the owner seemed like a straight up middle aged kind of guy that answered all my questions etc…
well since the bike was about 900miles from me,was fairly low mileage and I was getting it for a good deal, I took it and when through uship to have it delivered.
keys and title show up in the mail a few days after the bike and I start this thing up yesterday…
F#$k ! the bike makes a TON of noise from the LS of the motor. sounds like a damn sewing machine!!!
I pulll the CCT and it has 9-10clicks showing(depending how you count it.)My question: I can’t imagine these things sound this shitty from the factory so I figure its the camchain(which the owner did include in the box…thanks alot:thumbup:)
3400 miles??? please, someone tell me that can’t be right. and since I have NO IDEA how long this thing has been driven around like this what other bits might have been damaged???
I was told these bike were "bulletproof" but if I’ve got to replace the damn cam chain almost as often as tires, I’m going back to a LC4.:damn: -
Chain Advice
I am picking up my dirt wheels tomorrow to slap on my SM over the winter for some Trail riding. Well my chain is to short to put the 49t sproket on there for the dirt so I thought I would just buy a new chain and then put the old one back on next summer when I put the SM wheels back on. What size chain should I get. I know it needs to be really long to fit that 49T sproket. I am running a stock front sproket. -
New To Sm And Need Drz Advice
Hi,I ended up here during a search for info on DRZ sm’s. I sold my cruiser this spring and am looking to replace it with something I willl enjoy as much as I do Motorcross. I want to hit track days and of course a ton of urban assault. My initial focus was on a KTM 530 EXC with a set of SM wheels and tires. After a ton of reading I have decided to start with the DRZ due to cost and SM in-experience. From what i’ve read the DRZ is a great place to start. I am looking at two very different bikes.
The first is an 06 with 4600 km on it and the following mods. Apparently the engine amd suspension only have 100kms
-Athena 440 Big Bore Kit
-Yoshimura Power-up Kit (Cams and CDI)
-38mm FCR Carb (KX Style)
-Ported Head
-Boysen Quick Shot
-Full Yoshimura RS-3 Exhaust
-Racetech Front and Suspension (Gold Valve 2’s and springs)
-Renthal Fatbars
-Zeta Folding Levers
-Galfer Steel Braided Frone Brake Lines
-Cycra Supermoto Handguards
-Zeta Billet Chain Guard and Sproket Guard
-One touch fork Bleeders
-Custom XGX Graphics
-Brand new Pilot Power TiresThe second is a 2008 with 100kms on it totally stock. The kicker they both have the same asking price.
In the past when buying motorcross bikes I have looked for something well tuned, Exhaust, jetting and suspension done, well maintained and short on experience. Being a 2 Stroke nut for the last 15 years I feel a little out of my element here.
-Is there any thing I need to find out about the modded bike
-Should I have a dealer look at the modded bike before purchase
-Looking at the mods on it is there anything else I will need to do to make it totally reliable with the existing work "ie valves, valve springs crank, crank coating etc".I am of course leaning toward the moded bike as I prefer riding to building.
Thanks for your help. I really want to put one of these in my garage this weekend.

Bad Sale… Need advice.
Hey guys, I’ve been lurking here for a while but haven’t posted much.Anyway I just purchased a DRZ 400 off of craigslist a few weeks ago. It had the normal list of mods, the best of which was the FCR carb (big plus for me). So needless to say I ended up buying the bike and put some around town as well as highway miles on it before I parked it in my garage. Never having ridden a thumper or any 4stroke with a vacuum or FCR carb I thought it was pretty snappy compared to what I have read about the stock Mikuni (read thought it had FCR).
Fast forward to now as I’m disassembling the bike to do my usual tinkering. Now imagine my surprise when I find out the carb is the stock Mikuni :wtf:. Now I need some advice/ideas on what I should do about this. He told me that the guy he purchased the bike off of did all the mechanical mods; I think this is believable since the person that I bought it from could barely take the license plate off.
I’m planning on giving him a call tomorrow to find out what up. Any advice on what I should say? I plan on playing dumb for a little bit and try to get the Previous Previous Owners phone number or see if he says anything fishy. But if I can’t get that should I start to play hard ball? Is there anything tangible I can threaten him with so I can try to get some compensation or anything??
I’d imagine I’m up the creek since there was nothing signed or written down about modifications in the bill of sale.

advice about selling
BACKGROUND: I have an 07 690 SM with only 4000 miles, riding on new tires. I love it, but I want to sell it and get a dirt bike. A year or so ago I had a light crash, which made a minor scrape on each of the cannisters. The real damage occurred to the subframe, when the grab handle bolts bent their inserts. The subframe is perfectly straight, but I can’t install the replacement grab handles because the inserts (the female threads on the subframe) are bent.QUESTION: Should I replace the subframe ($400) and get it looking like new, or shall I offer a discount to a buyer who wants to save a few bucks and doesn’t mind not having grab rails? What do you think?

Looking for advice in Portland
Greetings!Just picked up a 2006 450 SMR with ~15 hours on it.
Bike looks great and runs strong. Could use some advice from local 450 SMR owners about jetting.
I’m running the full 4.1 FMF and clearly the jetting is a little off. It’s off in the upper rpm ranges. Anyone have a similar exhaust? What jetting are you running? I’m planning on running out at MAC and Pat’s…I’m stoked to get started!
Cheers!:bannana:

Painting Plastic Advice ???
I’m planning on painting my blue plastics with black Krylon Fusion on my 08 WRX250 Yam. Anyone have ideas on the best techniques for this ? I’ve been told to lightly sand the plastics 1st ( lite paper or emery ? ). Next , 1 lite coat of black? Then lightly ‘wet sand’ ( lite paper or emery ? )and finish off with final coat(s) ? Clear coat to finish ? Any help would be appreciated , does this sound right ? How long in between coats ? Never attempted a painting project on such a new bike so I’d prefer not to not screw it up ! If the black plastics were cheaper I’d just do that but……….. thanx DJ in NYC/Albany 09

Need advice, Replacing chain/sprockets on the DRZ
So my chain is more worn out than a BBW’s elastic underwear. I have pushed the blocks out as far as they will go and the chain is STILL slack. In fact the bottom of the chain guide has been eaten through by the chain. I guess that means I need a new chain.
So heres what I came up with.
http://www.bustersdirtshop.com/produ…productid=8716
Plugged in the Values for
05-08 DRZ SM
Rental O-ring Chain
and
Driven Blue rear-sproket.Judging by the picture the package also comes with the front sprocket.
Total comes out to $172.95 with free shipping.
Now.. What ELSE do I need to get the job done? I am tight on cash and need to be as economical about replacing this chain as possible. I have minimal tools and access to a jack.
I dont have any cutters or crimpers for this. Any "hacks"? Any inexpensive alternatives to paying 80$ extra bucks just for a cutter and a crimper?
Am I doing it wrong?

Have you ridden a WR250X and bigger ‘tards? Need your advice
Hey guys,So my tard’ness started on a DR-Z400SM, loved it. Got a CRF450R race bike, loved it. Got a Husa 550.. it was amazing!! Sold it thinking I’m gonna get outta bikes for a while but I already miss it too much..
So here’s my dilemma, part of the reason I sold the husa is that it was great on the track, but a beast on the street, I knew that if I rode it here and there it’d just mean more and more oil changes and other maintenance..
NOW – I’ve got a lead on a very slightly used SXV550, I’ve always wanted one of these but for about the same price I can pick up a new WR250X.. I figure this next bike will be hopefully more for road and less for track, something I can just ride and not worry about too much..
I’ve done all the searching and read all the reviews, a lot of people LOVE the WRX, the issue to me is I feel a lot of these reviews are more about loving the supermoto part of it than a bike as a whole..
I need real world experience of WR250x owners who’ve ridden some substantially serious super motards to figure out whether I’m going to buy this thing and then want to sell it in a month.. Should I just go back to a DR-Z?
Any advice / info is appreciated..
