  • XR100 to CRF100 conversion?

    Hey Guys,

Just bought a 97 XR100 for a couple hundred bucks………..pretty ugly but hey its whatever.

The bike is for a girl, so Im wanting to refurb it and make it a little more pretty. Thinking of going to the CRF100 body but unsure if its a direct bolt on or if Id need to chop and weld the crap out of everything to make it work. That would be lame.

So, If anyone has converted, please let me know. Im planning on completely rebuilding this thing and Id love some tips to upgrades. Better swingers (CR85???) Better front end (CR85???) I know that there is a cr85 to 100 engine conversion but Id rather just buy a CR125 or something for her when appropriate. Building a cool 100 is good enough.

Oh and is meir (sp?) the only source of pink goods? Ive been told several times that their quality is sketch at best as far as fitment.

Oh and by the way………..anyone wanna help me pick an affordable rim selection. Will need new hoops and hubs to go motard or keep stock but at least change the color. Its a hundo………cant spend a grand for a bike I bought for 350

    Help a brother out?

  • crf230 street tire

Any one know where to buy a street tire for the rear and maybe the front on a crf230f (2004). I am not motarding it out, I just want something I could put on there to use on the pavement for wheelies. Also probably the cheaper the better, that works on the stock rim. I just bought the bike and don’t have it with me at school so if someone knows what size I need I would also greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Kludge Tube

I was feeling ambitious today and started wrenching on the gf’s mini.

I put a Maxxis tire on the 10" front rim I got for it, and that went pretty well without incident.

I had to use a punch to drive the rear axle out, seems that the previous owner never greased the axle. No big deal, I got it out and gave it a good cleaning with a scotch brite pad.

When I went to pull the stock knobby off, the tube just kept coming out. I could hardly believe it. Some cannibal used a 20" bicycle tube :laughingr

  • What to buy?

I have been shopping for a while for a mini to pick up and convert. I found a stock 2004 klx 110 for 1300. I wont be racing seriously. Just tooling around with friends on parking lot tracks and go cart tracks. Would this be a good starting platform for a budget build? otherwise i was thinking a KX 65-85. The lower maint. of the 4 stroke is what i like but the draw back will be getting disc brakes, better suspension, and a manual clutch.

Anyone race these? My son is about to switch over to Honda CRF150R’s for his next race season. He has done some local Sumo stuff with me just swapping the wheels out from dirt to Sumo. I plan on getting a set of sumo wheels for a 150 so I can do the same thing next year.

So my questions is, is there any interest in KTM’s for mini sumo or should I sell it in dirt trim. Seems like most ride Honda and Yamaha.

  • Budgetbuild ?’s

    Hi all,
I’ve been on here stalking for quite awhile and I finally have some questions.
A few co-workers and I are talking about building some mini-motards over the winter and doing some parking lot/warehouse type racing next year. Basically just a bunch of us going out and having a fun time. Any way I have a 91 KX80 big wheel and a 89 RM80 small wheel sitting in the garage collecting dust that I got for free a few years back and was just wondering what everyone thinks about these 2 platforms? I was planning on running 12" rims.
I have been leaning more towards the KX only for the fact that it has disc brakes front and rear, but that can go either way.
Anyway thats the basics, just wondering what everyone thinks?

  • Help me w/ my First Bike Purchase!!

Hey everyone.. I’m a street rider and recently sold my zx-10 and bought my first harley.. the loss of my fun side has forced me to look into the dirt bike area… I was hoping for alittle help getting a first bike….

here is what I want to do: just play around… I want something to do stunts on and just goof off with… I’m not going to spend alot of time racing on tracks or whatever.. I may however occasionally take into a open field or something.. but nothing serious….

so here is what i’ve been looking at…
    A possible Pit bike 110 or so…
    a crf50
    kx85
    yz85
    something like that…

Also 2 stroke or 4 stroke?

Now, I dont’ know that much about dirt bikes… but I was hoping that someone could explain the difference between a trail bike or a supercross bike.. like a KLX vs KX … all I noticed was the KX has disc brakes and stuff… but anyways… I don’t know the diff.. so was hoping someone could explain and advise which would be better for what I want to do..

and last is size.. I’m 5-9 and 185.. I like the idea of having a smaller bike.. I sat of a 125 and i could barely touch… I jsut afraid that a 50 would be too small.. so ADVISE? also, how do you stunt on a 50 w/out a clutch and stuff? and as a middlepoing, would you be able to stunt on a 85? but still have enough power and clearance to trail ride alil if u change tires?

alright..well plenty to answer.. thx for any help

  • wierd

So i received an email to day that said " I hope everyone is doing well in the off season" ……….

    Whats the off season?

Looks like fall to me, been riding a tiny bit of dirt with the street tires getting ready to SHAVE the ice with all my MIMRA friends:arsenal

A great fall that looks very promising for harvesting 3-5 nice deer for my family freezer. I think "open season" on Odocoileus virginius starts November 15th wif dah fire arms:clap::clap::clap:

Oh yeah I’ve been downhill skating a couple times a week on super smooth pavement.

Harvested the last of the garden veggies today………

:infrandom "my season" is right on track and its KILLER:coffee:

  • PW80 trouble shooting

I’m working on the girls bikes. One of the PW80s won’t run. I can get it to start, the engine races for about 5 seconds or so and then it dies. If I give it any throttle it dies, if I turn off the choke it dies.

Any ideas of what is wrong with this bike?

  • Xr70 wheel choice

Hey, So I picked up a great running 2000 xr70 for 200 today, but I got it with no rear wheel, long story short, I need help with what I should do. Will a 50 wheel work? I would eventually like to go to 12’s all around, but short of paying a couple hundred from a dealer or similar for the wheel are there any cheaper options? or ways to get around this problem for cheap? If I have to I guess I will drop down the money for a new one, but I am hoping I will be able to spend the money elsewhere. Thanks.

  • Picked up a ‘05 CR85!!! now I need SM parts….

Trying to get a bike going for a friend of mine on a budget….

I have 12" rims coming soon (unless you have a cheap laced up set you want to sell me…:D) but we’ll need some other parts.
    -Stiffer/shorter front springs
-Stiffer rear shock spring (she weighs about 125lbs w/o gear on…)
-Maybe front brake upgrade? (ie: crf450 caliper and adapter bracket and oversize rotor)
-Axle sliders. I can make ones that will work, but maybe someone has some extras or an axle that’s ready to accept sliders?

That’s about all I can think of as the bike came with aftermarket exhaust system, reed valves, ASV leavers, and lowering link….
Let me know what you have.
    Thanks!

  • howto build motard out of older PW80?

I have 2 older PW80s in my garage. One needs work, the other is ready to play in the mud. We want to convert them over for the track. Both have the drum brake setup on both ends.

What do I need to do and what is it going to cost?
Can I just slap on slicks and send them out or do we need to get different wheels? Do they need a different brake setup?

Any help & guidance would be greatly apperciated. Thanks.

  • oil weep hole?

I seem to have a bit of oil leaking from the bottom of my case, there is what looks like a weep hole (like on a waterpump when it leaks to tell you the seals are gone) where the oil is coming from. I searched my manual and they do not reference any weep holes. Im thinking that i might need some seals in the bottom end? Any one know if this is a weep hole for the bottom end?

  • Tires for stock KX65 Wheels

I tried to search but I couldn’t find a straight answer. What are the tire options available that will fit the stock 14" and 12" wheels on a KX65? I have a friend who wants to try some motard racing but doesn’t want to fork over big money for wheels. We put KX65 suspension on his relatively stock KLX110 so traction shouldn’t be an issue. Just need some decent, inexpensive tires that will stick better than knobbies  .

    Thanks,
    David

  • Kids, getting started, track day 11/22 CMP, pw50,ttr90

    Hi everyone,

I?ve been reading here for a while now since I?ve been thinking of giving the kids a try on the pavement. Living here in SC?and with the CMP open track day next month….I figure maybe it’s time to pull the trigger.

Back when I had more time and money, I did 2-wheel track days with NESBA and 4-wheel track days with a car club as well volunteered as Club-Racing Registrar and Co-Chair for the same car club for many years. I know there can be many rules for these events and I definitely don’t want to load the kids and their bikes only to get turned away at the gate or in tech inspection.

My daughter (9) rides a ttr90 and my son (5 1/2) rides the handed down pw50. I did some searching and found some info on street tires and that I need to safety wire a few things.

What other bike prep rules or ?must haves? do I need to know for the kids to participate in an open track day?

Also, I would think their full dirt bike safety gear would provide adequate protection for the speeds they might achieve on the CMP short track with these stock bikes their first day out?? Also, not sure of the rules on this either.

Any helpful input for a single dad on a bare bones budget would be great! Just trying to help the kids create some great new memories?.track memories are among my very best!

    Thanks!!
