Hey everyone
How’s it going? Name’s Justin, new to this site and never been off dirt. I hope to change this soon as I will be building up a 50 with an extra set of street tires, and also am building a supermod ZB50.A customer suggested me to this site so I thought I’d log in and see what’s happening. Cya ’round the board.

EXC-R Headlight Shell/Lens and HID
Anyone running a HID bulb with this Headlight? When I did my HID conversion on my Husky I went with the Baja Designs headlight shell. Function is great but the looks are terrible…..found the EXC shell was thinking about going this route…also what bulb type does this shell take…H4? -
Sxv 5.5 Vs 560 Smr Fyi
So I rode my 560 SMR on a cart track the other day. Low and behold the object of my affection, an SXV 5.5 showed up. The rider was one of the fastest on the track and very good. He was one of the few backing it in and smoking laps. He was a far superior rider and could pass me at will in any turn. However, when he passed me on the last turn before the straight away a funny thing happened. We exited the turn with him about 15 feet ahead of me, and at the end of the 80 Yard straight away he might have gained 5 feet. My SMR is a race bike dynoed at about 60HP. It’s ride weight was probably 260Lb that day. I think the SXV is close to 300lb ride ready. And while it was bad, I was impressed that I was able to keep up. Also I had a 38 tooth rear on instead of the 45. No way he would have pulled on me with that.SMR VS SXV not the landslide you might think.

Thinking about switching!!!
What’s upI currently ride a GSX-R 750, and while I absolutely love my bike, but there is no way I will come close to meeting its potential with out putting it on a track, between having "license issues" when I was younger and being a new Daddy I think it’s just kind of dumb to have a bike like that. My first bike, way back when, was a Buell Lightning, and I definitely like the naked Hooligan look. I want something that will provide fun, everyday reliabilty, and comfort. I have been looking at some of the naked standards (Aprilia Shiver, Triumph Speed Triple, Ducati 1000 SS) and then I noticed the Aprilia SXV 5.5 and the Suzuki DRZ 400-SM, and I started thinking that looks cool. I am not going to be taking any trips anytime soon and I don’t have a long commute so distance comfort is not a major issue. Also, I know they are a completely different but coming from a tuned up 750 I would like something that lets you know there is trouble under you ass. What I am looking for is guidance on the different SM bikes and a reason to go that route over a naked sport. Thanks.
PS: I really like the Aprilia and I am partial to Suzuki but more than willing to look around

Epic Day, Wheelies and Waves!!
I finally got back on the bike on sunday after over a year of gimping around. 6 months with a blown knee, then suregury, then 6 months of hardcore physical therapy and training. So I finally hit the street on saturday and got all my tricks back and more!! I’m 40 pounds lighter, more flexable from yoga 3 days a week, and way stronger, its like riding with a new body!!! Then after I tore the street up for a couple hours, I busted out the surf board and got some waves too, all in one day!! It feels great to have my leg back, and be in better shape than I have been in 10 years. I can’t wait to get the camaras out and make some new clips!! I’m so stoked, I had to share.I’m ready to do more stunt shows now too, so spread the word, I’m back on the bike and ready to go. I would love to be able to do some more shows at the supermoto races this year, so help me talk the promoters into bringin me out to entertain you guys.

Need some info and spec. on 510 Husky
I’m pretty set on buying the SM 510R within the next month but I had a few questions, I Can’t seem to find any info on the bike. First question is if it’s a dry sump system? I hear it pretty much wheelies on demand and I can honestly say that front wheel will be in the air alot, just don’t want to starve the motor of oil and create problems in the future. The other question was the weight? The only other concern I have is I will be useing this for pretty much everything, tearing up the back roads and some main roads. Not to much highway but I’m sure I will be on some hear and there. Does anyone think this will be a issue if I’m on highway or main roads about 20% of the time? Any advice will be helpful, Thanks guys…The dealer I was looking at is selling the bike for just under $9000 That seems like a lot form what people are saying there paying for them on here. The next closest dealer is alomost 75 miles away, I guess I’ll price them out to see who has the better price.

Graphics question
It’s 45 degrees outside here in Tallahassee and my new custom shroud & fender graphics just arrived. I’ve never put graphics on with it this cold outside, so I’m unsure as to whether or not I will encounter any problems. I could wait until tomorrow when it will be 58 or so, but I’m really excited to get them on the bike and see how it looks (should be f’in sweet
). Any suggestions or tips? -
Whats the most dumb/embarrassing thing you’ve done?
hcw3’s post got me thinking, what is the most dumb/embarrassing thing you’ve ever done on your sm? I’ll start…..I had just gotten my bike, maybe 100-200 miles on it, was over at a girls house. My dad was always telling me to make sure I lock the bars. So I locked the bars when I parked it. Went to leave couple hours later. Got on the bike, started her, gave her some throttle, went to turn right….. only problem, when you lock the bars they are turned left. So as I went to turn right the bars didnt turn and over the bars I went. No real damage, couple scratches to the bike, my arm took the brunt of it. But I felt like the biggest dumb ass ever.

I am having a REALLY hard time with this decision PLEASE HELP
So i got an XR650L awhile4 ago for 500 bucks, i broke the frame, and just recently finished selling all the parts for wAY too much over ebay- i ripped you all off
came out with about 3000 from those parts and another 1000 that i have saved up between bills. I now have a decision to make
Crf450r=- already supermotoed for me or a 600cc sportbike????this is probably a biased crowd, but ill give you a quick background, when i had my half-a$$ed supermoto, i wanted that sportbike since all my friends had one, when i borke my XR I have missed it everyday since. But at the same time, still want that sportbike, I will not be racing either, but will be commuting everyday and of course that fun weekend ride.
Here is what i am looking at. ALSO- is this a good price????
http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/mcy/1053826437.htmlPLEASE HELP!!!! and thanks guys!!! :bike:
1 more thing!!!! My girlfriend always wants to be included in the weekend rides, and well, i dont think that is going to be possible with the CRF

street/track and a 150 rear, help!!!
i use my husky about 50/50 street and track. i can’t figure out what tire to get for my husky in a 150 rear. i used dunlop d208sm’s and some michelin thing. i had problems with both tires getting greasy when i was still at a comfortable pace. i was thinking about getting supercorsa’s, but it’s bad enough i’m spending over $400/set on them for my sv. so, i figure why not ask around. so, please tell me what your street/track tire is and what group you ride in (advanced, intermediate, etc.). anyone using continental sm’s for this?many thanks.
btw, i tried a search and it came up with a whole lot of nuttin’. sorry, i suck at the search function.

Seattle area
Not entirely sure I need to be posting in the racing forum but as I couldn?t find a regional non racing forum I?m going for it.I doubt many who have not ran proper motard are as anxious as I am for the new GP track to open up. I?m a street and occasional track day rider who cleaned out the stable and now am down to one new bike and while I realize it?s not going to make a great motard it will work and have to do. What I need to do is introduce myself, say hi and get to know a few folks. I really don?t want to be that dorky guy looking out of place with the funny bike off by himself.
I?ve had the opportunity to do some truly amazingly cool things in my life but to me one of the panicles would be learning how to back it in on pavement. I?ve taken one American Supercamp flat track camp and am hitting that again in late March followed up on day 3 and 4 with their supermotard camp. I?m hoping this will at least get me started in the right direction.
And I guess, while I?m here I do have some racing news. The DooWop Rally with RallyMoto is this weekend in the Aberdeen area. 2 day Rally stage race on closed course gravel roads. Great fun but a lot of rules and somewhat expensive with NASA membership, NASA racing license, and then the entry fee. We could use some more competition, if your interested let me know I can help you get the rules sorted out and what to expect come go time. Check out this video of one of the stages from 08 and imagine doing this on a bike!

Well thats about it, Looking forward to the GP track, getting to know you folks and having some fun.

Spaniard in Seattle
Hello there everyone.I´m in Seattle, WA, up to the 30th of june, and i though "let´s try to get some SM riding around"
The issue is, i´ve never ride SM, just street and track bikes back in Spain, so i´ll be looking for some kind of track lessons or the like.
Can you help me out? Is any place in Seattle or nearby that i can get some proper riding lessons and track time?
´Cause most of my pals back home are getting into it and i do not want them to get any advantage over me
Please to meet you guys…

Gearing question
I have converted my 07 450KTM to dual sport. I started out with a 15 45 sprocket set up 3.0 felt it was to high and changed to 14 – 45 3.22
ratio with stock 18 inch wheel. Just received new 17" supermoto wheels. How much does the smaller wheel diamater effect final ratio.
The new wheel came with a 47 tooth sprocket. What would be the best sprocket set up. will be on street 99% of time. -

First Service on wr250x
Dude!I got my bike 3 weeks ago, it’s been 600 miles, and I called to ask about the first service and how much it cost. The guy at the dealer said around $250 dollars! Dude, what the hell?
What is it that they do in the first service other than oil change, and tightening some nuts? This is ridiculous!
What do you guys recommend? Am I being ripped off badly? I can change the oil my self, is there anything else that is so difficult to do that I cant do by my self?
Thanks,
Luiz

CR500 Guru’s chime in…
I have a ‘97 steel frame CR5 with a 4.25" rear. Am I going to be able to squeeze on a Michelin Power Race 160/60-17" with out having to space out sprocket or shave tire? Also is this tire safe on a 4.25"? I’ll be riding mostly street and the trackdays that I do will be RR style so the lean angle won’t be as far as on tighter tracks. If not I have a brand new set of Michelin PR’s for sale $200 shipped for the set or $120 shipped for just the rear. One more question. For 15/39 gearing do I need to space the sprockets and if so how. Any input is much appreciated… -
Exhaust issues- need pipe clamp
So I finally mated my E series pipe to a FMF hi flo header and the mid pipe fits a little to loose over the header for my liking. I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a good pipe clamp. I need one that will fit a 1 3/4" pipe. I am looking for the kind that have a nut you tighten on the stud, and when you loosen it, it flips open…kinda hard to explain, but I have seen many of them on bikes. Thanks for any help.BTW-06 DRZ 400SM

I have some more, but i want to edit them. And keep in mind that I had a passenger on the back.
You can see that the ground was very slick, and I am using MT60Rs. I was very happy with the tires. All day and didnt go down at all. I was very close a few times as you will probably notice in the video.
Let me know what you guys think.
